This update is curated for Australian accounting practices using BrightWorkpapers for year-end, SMSF, audit, and trust engagements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Whether you are managing SMSF audits, group entity structures, or looking to reduce manual data entry from Xero, there is something in this quarter&#8217;s release for your firm. <\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>What are the biggest updates in BrightWorkpapers Q2 2026?<\/h3>\n<p>Q2 2026 brings improvements across five areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Xero-powered workpaper automation<\/li>\n<li>Group workpaper sharing<\/li>\n<li>SMSF dashboard enhancements<\/li>\n<li>Year-end workflow controls<\/li>\n<li>A new flow analysis tool for the general ledger<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>ATO data integration via ATOSA is also in testing and expected to follow shortly.<\/p>\n<h4>Xero Workpaper Automation: What&#8217;s now possible?<\/h4>\n<p><strong>If your team is still manually re-entering Xero data into workpapers, this release removes that step entirely.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Xero-powered workpaper automation is now live in BrightWorkpapers. Key workpapers auto-populate with financial data, calculations, and transactions pulled directly from Xero \u2014 no copy-pasting from spreadsheets, no manual re-entry.<\/p>\n<p>Ten workpaper types are now fully automated:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>General Ledger Detail<\/li>\n<li>Fixed Asset Register<\/li>\n<li>Bank Reconciliation<\/li>\n<li>Payroll Reconciliation<\/li>\n<li>Prepayments<\/li>\n<li>Trade Debtors<\/li>\n<li>Trade Creditors<\/li>\n<li>Entertainment<\/li>\n<li>Legal Fees<\/li>\n<li>Fines and Penalties<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Phase 2 of workpaper automation is already in development, with improvements to existing automated workpapers, support for custom Xero chart of accounts, and automation extended to dual code files.<\/p>\n<p>If your Xero client connection is already set up, you can start using automated workpapers today. If only one client is connected, it will now be selected automatically \u2014 a small but useful time-saving improvement.<\/p>\n<h4>How does Group Workpaper Sharing work?<\/h4>\n<p>For practices working with group entity structures, Group Workpaper Sharing removes the need to duplicate workpapers across multiple files.<\/p>\n<p>You can now share workpapers across group structures directly from the workpaper index. Shared workpapers appear as read-only in the subsidiary file, clearly labelled with their source entity. If you need to make changes in a subsidiary file independently, you can unlink the shared workpaper at any time to create a standalone copy.<\/p>\n<p>Word, Excel, and PDF supporting documents can also be shared across the group with the same protections applied.<\/p>\n<p>Group Workpaper Sharing is available across all BrightWorkpapers product types.<\/p>\n<h4>What&#8217;s new in the SMSF Dashboard?<\/h4>\n<p>Three improvements have been made to SMSF workflows this quarter.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Document upload dates and sorting<\/strong>. Uploaded documents now display the date they were added, shown beneath the uploader&#8217;s name. You can sort the Supporting Documents list by upload date \u2014 ascending or descending \u2014 making it faster to locate specific files in large document volumes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Text formatting preserved<\/strong>. Text entered in A1 workpapers now displays on the SMSF Dashboard with full formatting intact. Line breaks, numbering, and spacing are all preserved, so contraventions appear exactly as entered.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Help Centre access and document eligibility controls<\/strong>. You can now access the Help Centre directly from the SMSF Dashboard via the profile dropdown. Document eligibility settings have also been added, giving you control over which documents auditors can access.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>What&#8217;s new for year-end workpaper workflows?<\/h4>\n<p>Two updates improve the year-end engagement workflow.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Custom Status Profiles.<\/strong> You can now create and manage Status Profiles from a new tab in Manage Templates, without needing to build a full custom firm template. Assign a Status Profile to any industry template to customise statuses and sign-offs for that template. New files automatically pick up the Status Profile assigned to their template. Profiles you no longer need can be archived or deleted.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Assign File via Status Update.<\/strong> You can now update the file assignee at the same time as changing a workpaper status \u2014 selecting a team member in a single action rather than as a separate step.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>What is the new Flow Analysis tool in Data and Analytics?<\/h4>\n<p>Flow Analysis for General Ledger is a new visual tool for identifying patterns and relationships in your accounting data.<\/p>\n<p>It displays a Sankey diagram showing transaction flows between accounts. You can click on any account flow to filter the GL transactions table, and group transactions by journal entry for easier analysis.
